‘India Didn’t Deserve The Trophy’: Pakistan Fan Backs Mohsin Naqvi Amid Asia Cup Row

The Indian cricket team won the women’s Asia Cup after beating Sri Lanka in the final; however, what followed was a massive controversy that saw India refuse to collect the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi.

This was, however, not something that wasn’t expected. India have maintained social distancing from Pakistan following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The Men’s team also refused to collect the trophy fromĀ  , and the women’s team repeated the act.

Naqvi stood at the podium waiting for the Indian team, but they didn’t arrive. After a while, he left the stadium. The Indian team’s decision not to collect the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi may have caused an embarrassing moment for the PCB chief, but for a few Pakistan fans, the episode was viewed differently. In a video that has gone viral on social media, a fan told Naqvi that he did the right thing and that India doesn’t deserve the trophy.

BCCI Reveal Why They Refused the Trophy From Mohsin Naqvi

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia revealed that the women’s team refused to take the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi to show solidarity with the men’s team, who didn’t accept the trophy from Naqvi, who holds a prominent position in the Pakistan government. Saikia said that they have to respect the people’s sentiments against Pakistan and also follow the BCCI policy that we must play all teams in multinational tournaments.

“Trophy is a controversial thing in the Asia Cup, Our men’s team won the Asia Cup a year and a half ago. And our whole situation, since the April 2025 Pahalgam incident, the entire situation changed after that. So, after that, there was pressure on us from all our country’s citizens that we shouldn’t keep any relations with our neighbouring country and not play cricket with them. But our government has a policy that we must play against every country in multinational tournaments,” Saikia said.
