Karthik Subbaraj Directorial Dorothy Wins Rare Honour At TIFF

Keerthy Suresh, Sananth and Rishikanth starrer Dorothy has created a strong impression at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the Tamil film received a standing ovation following its world premiere in TIFF’s Centrepiece section, giving the upcoming drama significant international attention.

Dorothy marks Karthik Subbaraj’s 10th directorial venture and becomes the first Tamil feature to premiere at TIFF in a decade.achievung a rare feat. The filmmaker’s collaboration with legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja has also generated considerable curiosity, with the music becoming an important part of the film’s identity.

Set in the early 1990s, Dorothy follows childhood friends Karthi and Subbu whose lives change after Dorothy, a compassionate woman, enters their world. The film explores friendship, identity, prejudice, human relationships and dignity against the backdrop of rural Tamil Nadu.

Produced by Guneet Monga Kapoor, Achin Jain and Jyoti Deshpande, Dorothy is backed by Sikhya Entertainment, Dhammam Films and Jio Studios. Following its acclaimed TIFF premiere, the film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on September 25, with the Toronto response raising expectations for Karthik Subbaraj’s latest offering.
