Sandeepa Dhar Aims to Be Recognized as a Versatile Actress, Not Just a ‘Heroine’

Sandeepa Dhar, known for her recent role in the Netflix original series “Chumbak,” is carving out a unique space for herself in the entertainment industry. The actress has explored various genres, including comedy, thriller, drama, and emotional narratives throughout her career. She believes that a strong identity as an artist comes from the willingness to embrace diverse roles.

In a recent interview, Dhar expressed that her goal has never been to simply be labeled as a “heroine.” Instead, she aspires for recognition as an actress capable of portraying a wide range of characters. “My focus has always been on establishing my identity as an actor. It’s more important for me that people notice my acting and remember me as someone who can play different roles. The ‘heroine’ tag is not an end goal; the real challenge for an artist is to create a name through their work,” she stated.

Dhar highlighted the opportunities provided by digital platforms, which have allowed actors to experiment with various stories and characters. “I have worked in both films and digital platforms. OTT has given artists a stage to explore different kinds of stories and roles. Previously, once an actor established a particular image, they were often offered similar roles. However, OTT platforms offer more chances to showcase a range of abilities through varied characters,” she explained.

Feeling fortunate to be part of the OTT space, Dhar has had the opportunity to showcase her diverse talents. “I have received a lot of love from the audience, and I hope to continue playing different roles and demonstrating my range,” she added.

“Chumbak,” which premiered on September 10, features Dhar alongside notable actors such as Neena Gupta, Deven Bhojani, Arjun Bijlani, and Heli Shah. The series, a comedy-drama created by JD Majethia and Aatish Kapadia, has already garnered attention for its engaging storyline and talented cast.
