Peddi, HJTIHH, Bandar Invested Rs 535 Crore At Indian BO This Friday – How Much Does It Need To Recover

Believers of the ‘theatres are dying’ theory seem to be getting proven wrong by filmmakers across the country. The first week of June sees how cinema can contribute largely to the economy with massive investments. Theatres are running houseful with three major Indian releases, Ram Charan’s Peddi, David Dhawan’s swan song   and Lord Bobby’s Bandar. All three films cater to different audiences, each leading to unique footfalls with every new show. Peddi is a pan-Indian film that is drawing Telugu and Hindi audiences to theatres. Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is an entertainer, primarily targeted towards families and friends in the Hindi belt. Bandar is a niche film with the potential to be a winner through positive word of mouth.

It is a rare week where theatres are falling short of screens to accommodate an equal number of shows for multiple releases. This is perhaps a positive sign for more filmmakers to invest financial capital in the movie-making business. From June 1 to June 5, theatres are opening their gates for films mounted on a massive scale. Exotic locations, grand sets, trustworthy production houses and superstars fans are willing to pin their hopes on.

Peddi Budget

Ram Charan’s  , which also stars Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu and Divyenndu, has been mounted on a reported massive budget of Rs 350 crore. A star-studded cast, ample use of visual effects, and real-location shoots add to the experience of the film on 70mm.

Bandar Movie Budget

, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival before releasing on the silver screen in India, might appear to be a small-scale niche movie, but as per reports, the budget allocated to it was Rs 130 crore. The authentic-looking jail set, a credible cast and a director who is known for unconventional cinema can justify the cost.

Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai Budget

Despite having some of the biggest names from the industry, the reported budget of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is Rs 55 crore. Directed by David Dhawan, the romantic comedy stars  , Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde along with Chunky Panday, Mouni Roy, Maniesh Paul and many others.

Breakeven Prediction

Peddi’s budget of Rs 350 crore includes promotion and advertisement expenses. Its production cost alone is reportedly Rs 300 crore. Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’s marketing cost is reportedly in the range of Rs 10 to Rs 12 crore. The rest includes production cost and cast fees. While Bobby Deol was reportedly paid Rs 45 crore for Bandar, a large per cent of the budget was allocated to production, marketing and promotions.

In total, Rs 535 crore is the estimated investment at the box office.

When the investment has been made, the box office must recover the costs of production. As per the basic rule, a movie must earn 2.5 to 3 times its production budget to be profitable.

Ram Charan and Janhvi’s Peddi, which has already opened its account in the Rs 100 crore club, must earn a minimum of Rs 800 crore to Rs 1050 crore to be a profitable venture. Bandar must individually earn Rs 400 crore and above. Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. Due to a lower budget, will be considered a box office success if it earns anything above Rs 150 crore. The global box office, with these films running simultaneously, must collect Rs 1600 crore from all avenues to be successful.

Peddi, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, Bandar Box Office Collections

On the opening day, Peddi’s reported worldwide collection is Rs 135.36 crore. As of 12:30 pm on Friday, Sacnilk’s report claims that the India net collection for Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is Rs 97 lakh. The data for Bandar was not available at the time of reporting.

Just in case the films released this week fail to meet the required criterion at the box office, producers remain unaffected as OTT deals have been cracked well in advance. Peddi has been sold to Netflix for reportedly Rs 105 to Rs 130 crore.

Breakeven for a film like Peddi is possible. Despite mixed to negative reviews and criticism around the female lead’s objectification, the movie has its loyal grassroot audience that will watch it, maybe more than once. A strong pre-release buzz along with constant social media chatter could work in its favour.

Varun Dhawan’s romantic comedies almost always find an audience on OTT more than in theatres. Considering his fan following among youth and children, the summer vacation period might prove beneficial for Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona HaiBandar’s box office fate depends entirely on word of mouth. Though   has his fanbase across India, the film’s subject might not suit audiences of all age groups. Also, the language used in it could be a limitation for the family audience.

June 2026 Releases And Clashes

With thousands of crores invested in the cinema business, this is the best period to be tracking the showbiz economy. Production houses, after a long time, are willing to take risks with off-beat subjects. The month of June is busy at the box office. In the coming week, Imtiaz Ali’s  clashes with Kangana Ranaut’s  , Manoj Bajpayee’s   and Vikram Bhatt’s Haunted 3D – Echoes Of The Past on June 12. Amid this competition, it would be interesting to track how the current movies perform.

Buzz for the films arriving next week are fairly good. But there are high chances of this week’s films giving healthy competition to the new Hindi releases. Nonetheless, June promises to be a game-changer for Indian cinema. The box office drought finally seems to be ending with back-to-back movies led by big names in Bollywood.
