Confusion prevailed over the hosting of the first T20I between Afghanistan and India on Sunday despite the Delhi and District Cricket Association issuing a media release on Thursday that Delhi Police had assured them of all necessary support and arrangements for its smooth conduct.
The Delhi Traffic Police had earlier requested the DDCA to reschedule the game due to the high-profile BRICS Summit in the capital.
Sources told The Telegraph the match could be pushed back by a day and could take place on Monday. The final decision is yet to be taken.
The other two matches of the three-match series are scheduled on September 15 and 17. Afghanistan are the official ‘hosts’ for the three-match series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Earlier, a letter by the Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Central Range, addressed to the DDCA secretary, stated that the BRICS summit “requires extensive traffic arrangements, including VVIP/VIP route regulation, traffic diversions, route clearance and deployment of personnel for smooth and
uninterrupted movement of foreign delegates and associated vehicles.”
Physio quits
Team India physio Kamlesh Jain is understood to have submitted his resignation following a four-and-a-half year association. He is currently serving his three-month notice period and is accompanying the side in Delhi. Jain had replaced Nitin Patel.
Jain was recruited by the BCCI when he was with KKR during Rahul Dravid’s tenure as India coach. The Team India management is learnt to be unhappy with his performance following the recent spate of injuries.
There is talk that he could return to Kolkata Knight Riders once he is relieved off his India commitments.
