Uttarakhand fast bowler Akash Madhwal remains steadfast in his dream of playing for India. He believes that a successful domestic season could pave his way to the national team.
In a recent interview, Madhwal reflected on his memorable five-wicket haul for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. However, he emphasized that taking five wickets for India would be a far greater achievement. “Every cricketer dreams of representing India. We aspire to make our mark for the country,” he stated.
Madhwal’s journey began with tennis ball cricket, and his sole aim has always been to reach the Indian team. “All the hard work, whether starting with tennis balls or transitioning to professional cricket, has been driven by the desire to play for India and represent my country,” he explained.
His impressive performance in the IPL, particularly against the Lucknow Super Giants, has bolstered his confidence. Madhwal expressed his ambition to replicate that success on the international stage. “I want to achieve the same feat for India as I did for the Mumbai Indians,” he said.
Rejecting the notion of being just a death-over specialist, Madhwal considers himself a strike bowler for Uttarakhand, capable of performing in various roles from the new ball to super overs. He noted that playing alongside some of the world’s top bowlers in the IPL has enhanced his ability to adapt to different situations.
Regarding the competitive landscape of Indian fast bowling, Madhwal acknowledged the importance of continuous improvement and learning new variations. “During the off-season, we focus on our mistakes, learn new techniques, and strive to improve based on conditions. The quicker we adapt to modern cricket, the further we will progress,” he stated.
Reflecting on his journey, Madhwal shared that his passion for cricket led him to request a year from his family to pursue the sport. “Even today, when I step onto the field, nothing else matters. My connection with cricket is unique. The dream of playing for India still lives within me. I just need one good season to propel me to the top,” he concluded.
