Duleep Trophy 2026: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again grabbed the spotlight with an attacking batting display in the Duleep Trophy 2026 final.

The 15-year-old opener looked in excellent touch for East Zone against South Zone at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Sooryavanshi played a crucial role in East Zone’s run to the final, producing impressive performances in both innings of the semi-final against Central Zone. He continued his strong run in the title clash but narrowly missed out on another half-century.

What happened to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi?

East Zone captain Ishan Kishan won the toss and elected to bat first in the Duleep Trophy final. Sooryavanshi opened the innings alongside Abhimanyu Easwaran.

While Easwaran settled into a more watchful approach, Sooryavanshi immediately looked to attack the South Zone bowlers.

The youngster played a series of attacking strokes and quickly moved towards another half-century. However, his innings came to an end when he was on 44 runs from 36 balls.

When did Sooryavanshi miss his half-century?

Sooryavanshi was dismissed in the 15th over of East Zone’s innings. He attempted a big hit off Chama Milind’s fourth delivery, seemingly looking to finish the over with a six and bring up his half-century.

Instead, the ball went high into the air and was caught by a substitute fielder. Sooryavanshi walked back after scoring 44 runs, just six short of a well-deserved fifty. The young batter looked visibly disappointed with his shot selection after giving away a strong start.

Their approach worked perfectly as the opening pair completed a 100-run partnership in just 87 balls. However, the partnership ended soon after reaching the landmark when Sooryavanshi attempted the big shot against Milind.

Sooryavanshi has been one of the standout batters in the tournament so far. He currently sits third on the leading run-scorers’ list, having featured in four innings across three matches.
