Lock Upp – Sach Ya Saza contestant Apoorva Mukhija is controversy’s favourite child. Last year, the popular content creator landed in legal trouble over the India’s Got Latent controversy.
Earlier this year, a video of her cutting the sacred kalawa thread from her wrist before attending Coachella went viral on social media. The clip sparked massive backlash online, with a section of the internet slamming the “Rebel Kid” for allegedly disrespecting their religious beliefs. Apoorva has now addressed the controversy and revealed that it was her “last breaking point.”
Apoorva Mukhija Addresses Kalawa Controversy
In a new storytime video, Apoorva Mukhija aka Rebel Kid opened up about the difficult phase and recalled how the controversy took a significant toll on her mental health.
She said, “After the , my mental health was so f****g bad that I constantly felt that I had no purpose in life. Whatever I do, I was getting abuses and cancelled. I was getting anxiety even after waking up.” Talking about how comedians Tanmay Bhatt and Samay Raina motivated her to do something about her career, she added, “I had given up. I was not this person earlier, and my last breaking point was the kalawa controversy.”
For those unversed, the YouTuber was attending the popular Coachella Music Festival when she filmed a ‘get ready with me’ video. She cut the sacred thread on her hand, saying that it would “ruin her aesthetic.” This had left many people angry.
Apoorva Mukhija Recalls Feeling Suicidal
Addressing the backlash, further said, “My relationship with God is very new. I just started believing in God. It gives me a lot of peace. But I don’t think God believes in rules, that he cares if I cut a thread or something. So when I was doing it I did not think it was wrong. I knew my God would not mind. But of course, other people who believed in the same God got upset about it…”
She admitted that, despite having faced bigger controversies in her life, the incident was truly her breaking point. She said she felt that whatever she did or said was never right. Mukhija recalled feeling angry and that no one knew how to handle her.
She also revealed that she experienced suicidal thoughts during this difficult phase.
