Pakistan faced a significant setback in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026, suffering a 7-wicket defeat to India at the Dubai International Stadium on Saturday.
Following the match, captain Fatima Sana acknowledged her team’s batting shortcomings, stating they struggled throughout their innings.
Winning the toss, Sana opted to , a decision that proved detrimental as Pakistan crumbled to just 55 runs in 18.1 overs. Only two batters managed to score in double figures, with four players failing to open their accounts.
Reflecting on the batting performance, Sana remarked, “Our batting faltered, and we struggled throughout the innings. We knew the wicket was fresh and aimed to score as many runs as possible. We had confidence in our bowling unit.”
Chasing a modest target, India lost three wickets for just 29 runs. However, they quickly regrouped and secured the victory in just 8.4 overs, finishing with 7 wickets in hand. Sana was the standout bowler for Pakistan, taking 3 wickets for 17 runs in 3 overs.
Despite her personal achievement, Sana emphasized the importance of team success. “I took three wickets, but we still lost the match, so it doesn’t matter. We needed the win, and three wickets don’t change that,” she said.
Currently, Pakistan holds second place in Group A with one loss out of two matches. They will face Hong Kong, China, in their final group match on September 7. India has already secured a spot in the semifinals.
The standings show Pakistan (-0.569), Thailand (-2.050), and Hong Kong, China (-3.575) in second, third, and fourth places, respectively. Sana expressed determination for the upcoming match, stating, “We will try to play good cricket, aiming for victory and a place in the final.”
