The hype surrounding is all worth it, trust me. As the much-awaited film of 2026, the beloved Amazon Prime Video franchise has finally released on the big screens. Starring Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Jitendra Kumar, Ravi Kishan, and many others, the movie happens between episode 6 and 7 of the first season. With a runtime of over three hours, the movie makes sure you are thoroughly entertained, despite a dragged out first half. Having not watched the series, just catching glimpses of it through social media, here’s my review of the Mirzapur: The Movie as a first time viewer.

Mirzapur: The Movie Cast & Plot
Set in 2018, the series takes place between episode six and seven of Mirzapur’s season one. With the fight ongoing for Mirzapur’s throne, with outsiders eyeing Kaleen Bhaiyaa’s position. With his trusted right-hand and left-hand men, Guddu and Bablu (Jitendra Kumar), by his side he makes sure to keep things running smoothly. As Munna (Divyenndu) starts feeling threatened because of Guddu and Bablu’s importance in Kaleen Bhaiyaa’s life, he swears to reclaim what is rightfully his.
As a ploy to dethrone Kaleen Bhaiyaa starts getting stronger, Babban Babua (Ravi Kishan), a drug smuggler in Jaisalmer, is approached. Greed takes over him as well, as he starts eyeing the Mirzapur throne. What happens next forms the crux of the story.
Apart from the ones mentioned above, the movie, which is directed by Gurmmeet Singh and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment, Mirzapur: The Movie also features an ensemble cast of Shriya Pilgaonkar (Sweety), Abhishek Banerjee (Compounder), Rasika Dugal (Beena), Sonal Chauhan (Mumtaz), Shweta Tripathi (Golu), Harshita Gaur (Dimpy), Mohit Mallik (Birju), Sushant Singh (Bhairav Singh Karnawat), Kulbhushan Kharbanda (Bauji) and many others.
Mirzapur: The Movie Review
Not having watched the series beforehand, I went to watch the movie waiting to be impressed, and impressed I was. From the song placements to performances by the actors, the cinematography, and the scale of the film, everything left me mesmerised. Frankly speaking, watching the movie this Friday morning has made me want to watch the show, especially season one.
While it was a bit weird to see Ali and Jitendra as brothers in the film, as the latter replaced Vikrant Massey, from the clips I’ve seen on social media, the actors did an exceptional job recreating the iconic brother duo Guddu and Bablu on the big screen. The return of Divyenndu, Shweta, Rasika, Kulbhushan, and many others felt exciting to watch.
For the first time in a long time, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching a film on the big screen. With the kind of movies releasing these days, it has gotten difficult to enjoy my time at the theatres as they all share a similar template. This movie however, beautifully blends action, comedy, romance, as well as its commentary on the power struggles and the important role women play in such narrative. Well, if the makers in future decide to expand on the universe, focusing on Rasika Dugal’s character might be an interesting way to go.
Despite the scale of the film, the film felt grounded. Not to mention the marketing and PR surrounding the film, ahead of its release, kept the audiences quite intrigued and undoubtedly made Mirzapur: The Movie, one of the most-anticipated projects of 2026.
However, one of the drawbacks of the film is that the first half seems very dragged out. In a bid to set up the main crucial plot line, the makers take their sweet time, leaving you wondering how the movie would proceed.
Mirzapur: The Movie Final Verdict
All in all, Mirzapur: The Movie is a one-time “should experience in a theatre” kind of film. Even though it will premiere on Amazon Prime Video in a few weeks, if you are an admirer of the series and miss the camaraderie shared by the characters in the first film, surely do go watch it in theatres and let me know what you thought of the film.
