The failure of King of Kotha came as a major shock to Dulquer Salmaan. Back in 2023, the film arrived with huge expectations as an Onam release and registered one of the biggest openings of the year in Kerala.
It collected around Rs 6.85 crore net in India on its opening day. However, negative reviews led to a massive 62% drop on day two, when it earned just Rs 2.6 crore, taking its two-day total to around Rs 9.55 crore.
Interestingly, I’m Game now appears to be following a somewhat similar trend.
With Nivin Pauly’s Bethlehem Kudumba Unit continuing to perform well in theatres, I’m Game needed strong word-of-mouth to sustain momentum at the box office.
It now remains to be seen whether the film can gain a boost over the weekend, especially if exhibitors increase the number of shows.
The film is directed by Nahas Hidhayath, who previously made RDX. That film surprised the trade with its stylish presentation and gripping narrative, eventually earning around Rs 84 crore worldwide and emerging as a major success.
Dulquer Salmaan has often been convincing in stylish mass-action roles, and all eyes are now on how I’m Game performs in the coming days.
The film also marks Dulquer’s 40th movie and pairs him with Kayadu Lohar for the first time.
