Sree Vishnu is gearing up for the release of Comrade Kalyan, which is scheduled to hit theatres on October 9th. The makers unveiled the film’s teaser today.
What happens when an ordinary theatre owner with a carefree outlook is unexpectedly pushed into a revolutionary journey? That intriguing premise forms the core of Comrade Kalyan.
Interestingly, the teaser doesn’t take a completely serious route despite dealing with an intense backdrop.
Director Janakiram Marella instead uses humour as the driving force of the narrative, even bringing a comic touch to some of the Naxalite portions.
Sree Vishnu appears to be right in his comfort zone with the comedy. His effortless body language, natural dialogue delivery and impeccable timing make the character instantly likeable.
The sequences featuring him promoting R Narayana Murthy’s films at his theatres are particularly amusing.
The story takes an interesting turn when his otherwise uncomplicated life changes after he falls in love with an Odia girl.
The romance brings a fresh and entertaining flavour to the teaser, before circumstances gradually push his character onto an unexpected path that eventually leads towards Naxalism.
Mahima Nambiar makes a convincing impression as the Odia girl, while Satya and Sudarshan add to the fun with their comic performances. Their portions suggest that humour will remain one of the film’s major attractions.
On the technical front, Sai Sriram’s cinematography stands out. The picturesque Andhra-Odisha border setting gives the film a distinct visual identity, while Vijay Bulganin’s music effectively complements both the lighter and more intense portions of the story.
The production design also looks rich. Comrade Kalyan is produced by Venkata Krishna Karnati and Seetha Karnati under the banner of Skanda Vahana Motion Pictures LLP and presented by Kona Venkat.
Overall, the teaser promises an interesting combination of laugh-out-loud comedy and revolutionary elements. With Sree Vishnu leading the humour and an unusual storyline at its centre, Comrade Kalyan appears to be aiming for its own flavour of LOL Salaam.
