Deepti Sharma confident in ‘compact’ game: ‘Always one step ahead of Pakistan’

An India-Pakistan contest is never shorn of drama and excitement. Saturday’s Women’s Asia Cup clash in Dubai also promises the familiar intensity though India are way ahead on the batting charts.

India have already made the semi-finals while Pakistan are also expected to make
the knockouts. All-rounder Deepti Sharma sent out a clear message ahead of the T20I encounter.

“Look, there is no advantage as such. The only thing is that whatever we have won against them (Pakistan), whether it is the Asia Cup or any other matches, we are always one step ahead,” Deepti said at the pre-match press conference on Friday.

“The whole team is performing well. If you look at the bowling unit or the batting unit, I think both things are balanced. The one who has a good day, she tries to do better and take the game further. And those around her, they try to stay positive to step up in their game.”

Deepti is focusing on playing positive cricket.

“We just want to play good cricket. The team should be as compact as we are playing in two games, that’s the mindset,” Deepti, who’s currently at the top of the wicket-taking charts in women’s T20Is ahead of Thailand’s Thipatcha Putthawong, said.

She didn’t wish to say much about the Pakistan side. “Our team is good and their bowlers are also good. We know that. We want to play a good brand of cricket, that’s what we are focusing on.”
