Jagran Correspondent | Shimla: As relentless rainfall continues to ravage parts of Himachal Pradesh, a heavy rain alert has been issued for several places, including Kangra, Hamirpur and Sirmaur.
During the last 24 hours, the highest rainfall of 130.6 mm was recorded in Shri Naina Devi of Bilaspur, 85.8 mm in Murari Devi of Mandi, 45.4 mm in Nahan of Sirmaur and 45 mm in Kasauli, IMD said.
The State Disaster Management Authority said 95 roads are closed across the state due to rain and landslides, including, 38 are in Mandi, 22 in Kullu and 10 in Sirmaur. Efforts are underway to reopen these routes. Additionally, 198 power transformers and 56 drinking water projects have been disrupted in the state, deepening the power and water crisis in many areas. People and tourists have been advised to stay away from rivers and streams and to exercise caution when traveling in sensitive areas.
Amid the monsoon season, between June 30 to September 2, the state has suffered a loss of about Rs 1,235.44 crore, including infrastructure, Public Works Department and Jal Shakti Department, as well as private property. So far, 108 people have lost their lives due to various natural calamities, while 158 deaths have been recorded in road accidents.
What Did The IMD Say?
The IMD forecasted one or two intense spells accompanied with thunderstorm, including isolated places in Kangra, Mandi, Solan, Simaur, Bilaspur, Hamirpur and Una districts. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in Chamba, Lahaul and Spiti districts.
Advisory Issued
The weather department has issued an advisory for people in the state. It asked the people to avoid vulnerable and landslide prone areas. To keep safe distance from water bodies, such as lakes and rivers. To follow speed limits and traffic advisories and follow guidelines issued by the state government.
