Mumbai: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Joint Secretary Devajit Saikia has put an end to speculations surrounding the future of former Team India captain Rohit Sharma.
Saikia clarified that Rohit Sharma has been playing brilliantly and that there is no immediate threat to his place in India’s ODI squad.
“He (Rohit) is playing exceptionally well in all matches. He scored 130 runs in the last match he played. So, what more do you need? Why speculate? I do not want to feed into speculations,” Saikia said on Thursday, September 3, following a high-level review meeting of the Indian cricket board held in Mumbai.
The meeting was attended by head coach Gautam Gambhir, ODI captain Shubman Gill, T20I captain Shreyas Iyer, BCCI President Mithun Manhas, and Secretary Saikia. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar, whose tenure is set to end in October this year, did not attend the meeting held at the BCCI headquarters.
Devajit Saikia’s statements come at a time when speculation regarding Rohit’s ODI future has intensified once again.
“There was no selection meeting today. We met today as part of our routine meetings held every three months. Today, we met with the head coach, head of cricket, COE, along with the two captains,” Saikia said.
“We discussed how our team performed in England and Ireland, and what our plan of action is for the next one year. Therefore, a roadmap has been prepared,” he added.
