As Team India works on their road to the upcoming edition of the ODI World Cup 2027, the futures of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja will be discussed at the BCCI meeting on Thursday, according to a PTI report.
According to the report, Virat and Jadeja are not now under too much pressure, in contrast to Rohit. The report further added that there has been much speculation that Rohit was notified of the panel’s decision to proceed by a member of the selection committee rather than chairman Ajit Agarkar.
There was talk that Rohit had decided to retire following the ODI series against England, despite his anger. But a stunning 138 in the last ODI at Lord’s ensured that retirement was now out of the question.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia Turned Down Rumours
The third ODI between India and England at Lord’s on July 19 would have been Rohit’s final match, according to reports that quickly surfaced in the media. However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia refuted the news in response to a strong backlash on social media and stated that the veteran batter would continue to play for India as long as he is part of the team’s plan.
The 39-year-old Rohit addressed the rumours with a huge century under extreme pressure and scrutiny, seemingly delaying his retirement for the time being. A video of Rohit responding to rumours about his future was also made public by BCCI.
Rohit Sharma On The Rumours
Calling the rumours about his future ‘noise’, he said, “Look my job is with the bat, come and play, represent my country, represent the team. That’s what I’ve been told to do since I made my debut so that’s what I’m going to do.”
“The noise, since I made my debut, was there. And till the time I’m going to stay here, it’s always going to be there. So it doesn’t really matter too much. What matters is what I do on the field. Try and contribute to the success of the team,” he added.
