New Delhi: Team India captain slipped two spots among batters, and pacer dropped one position among bowlers.
Meanwhile, Devdutt Padikkal climbed to 54th place among Indian players in the latest ICC Test rankings released on Wednesday, September 2.
Gill scored only one half-century across three innings in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka and has slipped two positions to ninth. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is the highest-ranked Indian batter in Test cricket, at the seventh position. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s position remained unchanged in the rankings, with him placed at the 11th spot.
Padikkal was India’s best batter during the Test series against Sri Lanka, scoring 328 runs with the help of two centuries. He moved up five places to reach the 54th spot. Sri Lanka batter Sonal Dinusha, who smashed resilient centuries in the second Test against India in Colombo, moved up 29 spots to reach 25th in the rankings for batters after his brilliant performances.
England batter Harry Brook is the No.1-ranked Test batter despite his poor performances in the second Test against Pakistan at Lord’s. Australia’s Steve Smith is in second place as Joe Root drops to third spot.
Bumrah slips to third position
India’s Jasprit Bumrah lost his second position in the rankings for Test bowlers and is now placed at the third spot behind Australia pacer Mitchell Starc and New Zealand’s Matt Henry. He missed the Test series against Sri Lanka due to an impact injury to his knee, which has ruled him out of action since mid July.
Bumrah has been included in India’s squad for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in mid-September, but his availability is subject to fitness clearance from the BCCI’s COE. England’s Ollie Robinson moved up six places and rose to fifth place overall, marking a return to the top five for the first time since July 2023.
