Swara Bhasker recently made headlines for her strong reaction after being asked about an open letter that she wrote in 2018 to director Sanjay Leela Bhansali after watching his controversial yet superhit film, Padmaavat.
For her latest remark regarding Deepika Padukone’s film, she has been facing a lot of backlash on social media. Now, Swara took to her X handle and issued a clarification through a video message, in which the actress claimed that her words were being ‘wrongly’ translated. The Veere Di Wedding star also urged everyone to watch the original video before making any comments or opinions about her.
Swara Bhasker Issues Clarification Over Padmaavat Row
In the video, mentioned that her clip went viral on social media and it is being wrongly and falsely translated. She said, “I absolutely did not say that Queen Padmavati or any sati was a coward.”
The actress told the trolls that if they want to hurl abuses, then do so, but on the basis of her actual statement. In the caption, Swara wrote, “Women have the right to life even after .” (sic)
Coming back to the video, Swara said, “I had said that while watching Padmaavat’s climax, I felt, ‘God forbid if I had been a rape victim, I would have felt like a coward that I didn’t kill myself.’ I said it because in our country and society, rape has become an . We are living in a thriving rape culture.”
She also cited an example of a recent gang rape case that happened in Delhi where the girl was raped in a bus and called it a reality of the country. Swara questioned people for making films where women are seen giving more importance to the purity of their bodies over their lives. “Kya humein rape survivours ko yeh sandesh dena chahiye ki agar unki jaan hi chali jaati toh behtar hota? Ya tum zinda bach gayi yeh buri baat hai? Kya ek mahila ki zindagi rape ke saath khatam ho jaati hai?” Swara added.
The actress concluded her video by stating that Nirbhaya fought hard against the six rapists to survive, as she had a will to live. Swara Bhasker’s video is going viral on social media, and it has left the netizens divided.
