This tournament, scheduled to begin on September 13 at New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, serves as vital preparation before the men’s cricket competition at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Afghanistan will officially act as the host nation for this series, continuing their long-standing arrangement of utilizing Indian stadiums for home fixtures due to geopolitical challenges in their home country.

Several frontline players face mandatory physical evaluations before taking the field. Medical experts must formally clear Bumrah, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, and Harshit Rana before they can participate. Sundar recently missed the Sri Lanka Test series, which India won 1-0, due to a hamstring injury suffered in ODIs against the Three Lions. Rana also returns after recovering from a hamstring strain that sidelined him recently, having previously missed the T20 World Cup 2026 due to a separate knee issue.
Emerging Batsmen Secure Spots
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continues to impress national selectors, retaining his position after displaying excellent form against Zimbabwe. He provides an explosive batting option alongside Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan. Shreyas Iyer takes charge as captain, supported by vice-captain Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube in the middle order. Spin duties fall to Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi, while Axar Patel and Reddy offer versatile all-round capabilities.
