Speed post tariff
The Department of Posts have announced a change in the tariff of the inland speed post (document) and the introduction of new features. These changes will be applicable from 1 October 2025. The speed post, which began on 1 August 1986, is known for fast and reliable delivery across the country. This service started under modernization of India Post is a strong option compared to private courier companies.
The speed post’s tariff was last revised in October 2012. The tariff has been changed for investment in rising operational cost and new technology. With this, new facilities have been added to increase the convenience and trust of the customer.
New facilities
- Registration Service- Now registration facility is available for speed post (document/parcel). The delivery will be only to the adresce or their authorized person. For this, Rs 5 per item + GST will be charged.
- OTP delivery- Delivery in this facility will be done only when the Adresesses OTP will verify. For this also, Rs 5 per item + GST will be taken.
- Discount for students- Students will get 10% discount on tariffs.
- Rebate for new bulk customers- New bulk customers will be given 5% discount.
- SMS-based delivery notifications- Users will get information related to delivery through SMS.
- Convenient online booking services- Users will also be given the facility of online booking.
- Real Time delivery update- Also, the update of real time delivery will also be available.
- Registration for users- The remaining registration facility will also be available now,
New tariff rates
The government has now revised the fee of speed post. From the date of 1st, it will cost Rs 47 for more distance from the remaining of up to 50 grams. Apart from this, for 51 grams to 250 grams of goods, Rs 24 in local, Rs 59 from 200 km, 63 km to 500 km, Rs 63, 501 and Rs 68 for 1000 km and Rs 77 for more distance. For posts ranging from 251 grams to 500 grams, Rs 28 for local distance, Rs 70 up to 200 km, 75 rupees between 201 to 500 km, Rs 75 from 501 km to 1000 km, Rs 86 for distance from 1001 to 2000 km and Rs 93 for distance.
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also shared the post on social media platforms and said that now also fast and comfort. With these steps, the goal of India Post is to make the speed post more safe, transparent and technology-based.
