Deepti Sharma’s 150th T20I outing for India was a memorable affair as the Women in Blue defeated Thailand by 94 runs in their opening game of the 2026 Women’s T20 Asia Cup at the Dubai International Stadium, as she took three wickets with the ball while giving away zero runs in just 1.1 overs as the seven-time champions enjoyed a comfortable outing.
Deepti was introduced in the attack by Harmanpreet Kaur in the 9th over and got a wicket on her first ball by dismissing Noami Hamilton (1 of 3 balls). On the third ball, she dismissed Nannaphat Chaihan for a two-ball duck. Later, she returned in the 17th over and struck on the first ball by dismissing top-scorer Nannapat Koncharoenka (41 of 48), which was Thailand’s 10th wicket.

The final wicket saw Deepti set a huge world record as she became the highest wicket-taker in Women’s T20I cricket history. She broke a record that was held by Thipatcha Putthawong, who incidentally plays for Thailand. She bowled four overs today and gave away 37 runs and got one wicket, which was the big dismissal of Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur.

Deepti has regained the spot as the highest wicket-taker, as she had first set the record in December last year after going past Australia’s Megan Schutt during the fifth T20I of the team’s home series against Sri Lanka. Earlier this year during the Women’s T20 World Cup, she surpassed Indian cricket legend Jhulan Goswami to become the highest wicket-taker in women’s international cricket across all formats.

Deepti has become the first Indian cricketer (male or female) to take a three-wicket haul in a T20I without conceding a run. Overall in Women’s T20I, there have been 26 instances of a runless three-for, but only three players from a full-member nation have achieved it. Incredibly, no male player from a Test-playing nation has achieved the feat in the shortest format.

Deepti is only the second player to take a three-wicket haul without conceding a run after Sri Lanka’s SK Dolawatte in 2012 against Bangladesh in Guangzhou.
Meanwhile, Deepti became only the third Indian after captain Harmanpreet and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana to play 150 T20Is. The veteran all-rounder and Mandhana stand out as the only players to reach the milestone before celebrating their 30th birthday.
