Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, along with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on Sunday, August 30, laid the foundation stone for 12 development projects worth around Rs 101 crore in Lucknow Cantonment.
The projects are aimed at improving civic amenities and infrastructure in the area.
The development package covers several areas, including education, sports, water supply, healthcare, cleanliness and parking. The projects are part of efforts to develop Lucknow Cantt as a modern and better-equipped cantonment.
What will the 12 projects include?
The projects will include a sports complex and a school for children with disabilities. Additional classrooms will also be constructed in two schools in the cantonment area.
The package also includes the replacement of old water pipelines and the construction of overhead water tanks to improve water supply. Robotic car parking will also be developed to address parking and urban facility needs.
A city polyclinic will be established at Ekta Bazaar, while the Chief Minister Abhyuday Yojana will be launched at Mangla Devi School with the support of the Uttar Pradesh government.
According to Rajnath Singh, the projects will give fresh momentum to cleanliness, education, sports, healthcare, water supply and other urban facilities in Lucknow Cantt.
Rajnath Singh praises CM Yogi
Speaking at the event, Rajnath Singh praised Yogi Adityanath for supporting development work in Lucknow and Uttar Pradesh.
The Defence Minister said he sees the pace and progress of Lucknow as closely linked with the progress of the entire state. He also highlighted cooperation between the Uttar Pradesh government, the Ministry of Defence and the industrial sector in taking development work forward.
Rajnath Singh said the 12 projects should not be seen simply as construction works. He described them as commitments towards a cleaner, safer and more modern Lucknow Cantonment.
He also highlighted the importance of education, clean water, sports opportunities and facilities for children with disabilities as part of broader development.
New building rules for cantonment areas
Rajnath Singh also referred to changes in building bylaws in cantonment areas, including Lucknow. He said that where G+2 construction was earlier permitted, provisions have now been made for Stilt + Ground + 3 buildings.
He said the changing needs of cities and residents require rules to be updated from time to time.
CM Yogi highlights Lucknow’s transformation
Yogi Adityanath highlighted the changes taking place in Lucknow, pointing to smart roads, roads developed under the CM Grid scheme and the outer ring road.
The Chief Minister also highlighted Lucknow’s growing role in modern defence technology, including BrahMos, alongside its traditional heritage and Chikan craft.
Yogi Adityanath said the state government is working to fully clean the Gomti River by the end of this year. He also thanked the Central Command for its cooperation in efforts related to the river’s cleanliness and flow.
The 12 projects in Lucknow Cantt are aimed at improving basic facilities and quality of life for residents while supporting the broader vision of developing a modern and self-reliant cantonment.
