In a post on his blog, the veteran actor said the fury of nature cannot be fought and called for prayers and divine intervention.
“On a more serious note the devastation of the floods in Nepal are unbearable to watch… the fury of nature can never be battled with .. its respect needs the presence of the divine…we pray,” Bachchan wrote.
Nepal was hit by catastrophic flash floods on August 26. According to the country’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, the bodies of 579 people swept away by the floods had been recovered, while 1,924 people remained out of contact as of Friday evening.
Bachchan also marked Raksha Bandhan by sharing a picture of his wrist covered with rakhis. Reflecting on the festival, he described the bond between brothers and sisters as one of love, affection and care, symbolised by the sacred thread tied around the wrist.
On the work front, the octogenarian actor is currently involved in the sequel to “Kalki 2898 AD”, directed by Nag Ashwin. The epic science-fiction film also features Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani.
The first film was set in a dystopian future in 2898 AD and followed a group attempting to protect the unborn child of lab subject SUM-80, who is believed to be Kalki, the final incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
Bachchan is also reportedly set to appear in Nitesh Tiwari’s “Ramayana: Part 1”, alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash and Sunny Deol. He is reportedly portraying Jatayu in the film.
The actor was last seen in the action thriller “Vettaiyan”, directed by T.J. Gnanavel.
