Allari Naresh’s upcoming fantasy comedy Rambha Oorvasi Menaka, scheduled to hit screens on September 4, has reportedly run into a censor hurdle.
The film, which revolves around the celestial beauties Rambha, Urvashi and Menaka, has apparently attracted objections over certain portions involving mythological characters portrayed in a humorous manner.
Reports suggest that the censor authorities have specifically objected to scenes featuring Rambha, Oorvasi and Menaka descending from heaven to Earth.
These sequences are said to be among the film’s major comedy portions and are considered important to its entertainment value and narrative.
The makers are reportedly unwilling to remove the scenes and have been advised by the censor members to approach the Review Committee.
The team remains hopeful of retaining the sequences, believing they could emerge as one of the film’s key highlights.
Interestingly, Indian cinema has a long-standing tradition of using characters such as Rambha, Oorvasi, Menaka, Yama Dharma Raja, Chitragupta and Indra in comedy tracks.
Several films in the past have presented these revered figures in light-hearted situations, often becoming memorable parts of their respective movies.
However, the evolving social climate appears to have made censor authorities more cautious about such portrayals.
Directed by Chandra Mohan Chintada and produced by Razesh Danda and Nimmakayala Prasad under the Annapurna Studios and Hasya Movies banners, the film will now be screened before the Review Committee, which is expected to examine the content on Monday.
Meanwhile, the recently released trailer has received a strong response, particularly for its comedy and entertainment quotient.
Surabhi plays the female lead, while Rashi Singh, Vishnupriya and Prisha Singh portray Ramba, Oorvasi and Menaka, respectively.
