New Delhi, August 30: The South Delhi Superstars have secured their place in the final of the Women’s Delhi PremierĀ . They achieved this by defeating the East Delhi Riders by 70 runs in a match held at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday.
With four wins out of five matches, the South Delhi Superstars topped the group stage. In contrast, the East Delhi Riders, having lost four out of five matches, have been eliminated from the title race.
Batting first, the South Delhi Superstars scored 180 runs, losing four wickets in the process. Priya Punia, alongside Nishika Singh, formed a partnership of 27 runs for the first wicket off 27 balls. Nishika was dismissed for just 6 runs. Following this, Priya partnered with Tanisha Singh to add 93 runs for the second wicket in 55 balls, taking the team’s score to 120. Tanisha contributed 14 runs off 21 balls.
Priya continued to lead the charge, adding 46 runs with Taniska Singh for the fourth wicket in just 29 balls. Priya scored an impressive 117 runs off 66 balls, hitting 6 sixes and 13 fours before getting out. Taniska added 23 runs off 18 balls. For the East Delhi Riders, Poorva Singh took the most wickets, claiming 2, while Bharti Rawal and Parunika Sisodia took 1 wicket each.
In response, the East Delhi Riders managed only 110 runs, losing 6 wickets in their 20 overs. They lost four wickets for just 30 runs, but Poorva Sivach attempted to stabilize the innings, adding 31 runs with Sonakshi for the fifth wicket off 27 balls.
Poorva scored 22 runs from 19 balls, hitting 3 boundaries. Sonakshi, who remained not out with 43 runs, formed a partnership of 24 runs with captain Parunika Sisodia (3) for the sixth wicket and added another 25 runs with Riti Tomar (not out 11) for the seventh wicket. However, their efforts were not enough to prevent a heavy defeat and the loss of their chance at the title.
From the opposition, Roopali Verma and Ekta Bhadana each took 2 wickets, while Tanisha Singh and Diksha Nagar claimed 1 wicket each.
