Women’s Asia Cup 2026: The Indian women’s cricket team will begin their Women’s T20 Asia Cup campaign against Thailand in Group A at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, August 30th.
India will be keen to make a strong start after a difficult year in T20Is. The team has lost nine of its 16 T20Is in 2026 and was also knocked out in the group stage of the T20 World Cup.
However, history gives India plenty of confidence, with the team having won the T20 Asia Cup title three times in the five editions played since 2016-17.
What is Team India’s strategy?
With Jemimah Rodrigues unavailable, Pratika Rawal is expected to play an important role in the middle order.
Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma are likely to open the innings, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur will be one of India’s key players.
The spin department will be led by experienced campaigners Deepti Sharma and Radha Yadav, alongside Sree Charani. Renuka Singh Thakur will spearhead the pace attack and will be expected to provide early breakthroughs.
Thailand enter with confidence
Thailand, meanwhile, will head into the contest with plenty of confidence after securing a thrilling six-run win over Hong Kong in their opening match.
Captain Naruemol Chaiwai impressed with a 43-run knock, while Onnicha Kamchomphu starred with the ball, finishing with figures of 3/27. India, Thailand, Hong Kong and Pakistan are placed in Group A of the eight-team Asia Cup.
