Nissan will introduce the all-new Tekton mid-size SUV (C-segment) on 9th July. This is part of the brand’s strategic plan to strengthen its presence in India. Earlier this year in February, Nissan had launched the . Even the Tekton was originally planned to make its debut in February. An exclusive new launch date in July will likely be more beneficial from a promotional perspective.
Nissan Tekton – Design and features
Heavily camouflaged, the test mule has a boxy profile with an upright front fascia. Key features across the side profile include hex-styled wheel arches with cladding, large wheels, a flat roof and C-pillar mounted rear door handles. At the rear, the SUV has a prominent roof mounted spoiler, a raked windshield and a chunky rear bumper. Nissan Tekton has C-shaped tail lamps in connected format.

In earlier spy shots, various other distinctive features of the Tekton were revealed. The SUV has top-mounted LED DRLs and a full-width LED light bar. Teaser images have revealed features such as TEKTON lettering in big font on the bonnet. The SUV has a large grille with two full-width chrome strips converging at the Nissan logo in the centre. Prominent C-shaped inserts have been used on both sides of the bumper.
Inside, most of the features of Tekton are expected to be the same as the new Duster. However, things like upholstery, dashboard layout and interior theme will be distinctive. Key features expected include dual screens, front ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, automatic dual zone air conditioning, air filter with AQI display and wireless smartphone charger.

Nissan Tekton – Powertrain options
Base variants of Nissan Tekton are expected to be equipped with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. It generates 100 PS and 160 Nm and is paired with a manual transmission. Nissan has ensured that even the base variant delivers versatile performance, suitable for both busy streets and highway cruising. Higher variants of Nissan Tekton will have the option of a 1.3-litre turbo petrol TCe 160 and a strong hybrid E-Tech 160.
For both Tekton and , the strong hybrid powertrain will be introduced at a later date. This setup comprises a 1.8-litre petrol engine and a 1.4 kWh battery pack. Tekton’s 1.3-litre engine generates 163 PS and 280 Nm of torque. It is offered with transmission options of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed DCT. As mentioned earlier, these engine options are the same as the new Duster.

Nissan Tekton will be entering the highly competitive 4.2m – 4.5m SUV segment. It will take on rivals like Hyundai Creta, Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Grand Vitara, Tata Sierra, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and Honda Elevate. Nissan is likely to offer the Tekton at a competitive price point. The base variant could be offered at a starting price of around Rs 10-11 lakh.
