Massive Fire at Malviya Nagar Hotel

A massive fire broke out at a bed-and-breakfast in a five-storey building in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area on June 3, killing at least 21 people. Several of those killed were foreigners, mainly from Central Asian and African countries, who had come to the capital for medical treatment at the Max Hospital nearby.

It started at 8.30 am and quickly spread through the five-floor narrow building that had only one entry-exit point, permanently sealed windows, and a sensor-operated main door.

At least 58 people were rescued and rushed to hospitals, where 21 were declared dead. Officials said the death toll may rise as a number of the injured are in critical condition.
