Amid Don 3 Row, Ranvir Shorey Says Producers ‘Cancel, Delay Projects Without Compensating For Actors’ Losses’

The Producers Guild of India on Wednesday (June 3) weighed in on the ongoing   dispute involving Ranveer Singh and Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment. Without mentioning any names, it stated that there had been growing instances of actors exiting projects just days before filming was set to begin, causing massive losses to producers. The body also warned of strict action against such behaviour. Actor Ranvir Shorey reacted to the statement by highlighting issues that affect actors. He said that producers, too, often delay projects or sometimes cancel them altogether without compensating actors for their losses.

Amid the ongoing  ,Ranvir pointed out that film projects are often shelved or postponed by producers, leaving actors to deal with career setbacks and financial losses without compensation.

“You will not believe how many times producers cancel/delay projects unilaterally without any mention of compensation for the losses to an actor,” he wrote while responding to a news report about the guild’s statement.

In a follow-up tweet, he clarified, “I meant it as a general statement, and not a comment on any particular case or dispute.”

When a user responded by arguing that the situation was similar to a company versus an employee, where the company would usually have more at stake, and that such issues were common across industries, Ranvir said that he understood that perspective. However, he maintained that workers also deserve to be treated with respect and sensitivity.

“The number of producers that take an actor for granted is far lesser than the number of actors that take a producer for granted (in Bollywood). The exploitation is far deeper for new producers who often end up bankrupt due to shoot katke date phansa dena,” read a comment under his tweet. The Khosla Ka Ghosla! actor said that those are “stars,” not actors.

After Ranveer   shortly before production was scheduled to begin, Excel Entertainment filed a complaint with the Producers Guild of India. This reportedly led to several meetings involving big names of the Hindi film industry to settle the matter. However, the parties failed to reach an agreement.

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) then issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer, asking its members not to work on his upcoming projects. In response, the actor sent a legal notice to the organisation. The directive has now been withdrawn.
