Calcutta: Following in the footsteps of their dads, Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag’s sons have earned a call-up to the India U-19 side for the three-match 50-over series against Australia U-19 next month.
Aaryavir Sehwag and Anvay Dravid were included in the 15-member squad on Thursday for the matches to be played in Rajkot. Anvay was part of the Sri Lanka tour in July, and scored 87 in the second one-day game. He is one of two wicketkeepers alongside Rajat Baghel.
Lakshya Raichandani will lead India U-19 in the one-day series with Yashbardhan Chauhan as his deputy. The roles will be reversed for the two multi-day fixtures.
Raichandani goes into the series after a prolific tour of Sri Lanka, where he was the leading run-scorer in the two-match four-day series with 307 runs at an average of 153.50. He made 207 in Galle, before scoring an unbeaten 100 in Colombo. He has also played four first-class matches for Uttarakhand, and has scored 223 runs, which includes three half-centuries.
Aaryavir, a right-handed batter, recently played for the West Delhi Lions in the ongoing Delhi Premier League 2026, where his attacking strokeplay drew comparisons with his father. He earlier made headlines during the Cooch Behar Trophy in 2024, smashing 297 against Meghalaya.
There’s no doubt that there will be huge pressure on the two former India captains’ sons to perform. There is also no escaping the fact that they will be always be compared to their illustrious dads for whatever they do on the field.
However, neither Aaryavir nor Anvay have been picked for the two multi-day fixtures.
