Former India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is optimistic about making a comeback to the national squad, stating he is keeping up his hard work and thinks all will work out in due course.
Suryakumar, who helped India win their third T20 World Cup earlier this year, was left out of the team for the forthcoming travels to England and Ireland. The decision was influenced by his recent batting performance, and the selectors are also considering the upcoming two-year cycle.
Surya On India Comeback
The 35-year-old’s inconsistent form and challenging IPL season have raised doubts over his future in India’s T20I team. When asked about his intentions to make a comeback at a Pro Govinda League event, Suryakumar replied that he is making every effort to reenter the race.
“Look, I’m putting in all the hard work and doing everything I can. If things go well, then everything will fall into place,” Suryakumar said.
Suryakumar has been a consistent member of India’s T20I team in recent years and is still a vital member of the Mumbai Indians. Following Rohit Sharma’s departure from the T20I format, he assumed the captaincy and guided India to the World Cup victory.
Shreyas Iyer’s Captaincy Under Scanner
But Shreyas Iyer eventually took his place as captain, and he was completely excluded from the T20I team. The former world No. 1 T20I batsman has recently struggled to maintain his peak performance. His exclusion follows a time when his batting achievements fell short of the expectations he had set for himself.
Additionally, ‘s performance under Iyer has not been favourable. They lost the five-match Twenty20 International series against England 4-0 after being defeated 2-0 by Ireland. Rain caused the first game of that series to be cancelled without a result.
During an event in Colombo, Suryakumar also had a lighthearted conversation with the legendary Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka. In a social media video, Suryakumar greeted Jayasuriya before making light of his physical condition and inquiring as to if he was getting ready for a global comeback.
“Getting fitter, trying to make a comeback? Looks like 100,” Suryakumar remarked. Jayasuriya smiled at the response, and the conversation even went viral on social media.
