Upasana Singh became one of the most loved faces of The Kapil Sharma Show with her unforgettable portrayal of Bua. Her comic timing, quirky one-liners and effortless chemistry with Kapil Sharma made the character a fan favourite, leaving audiences hoping for her return even after she stopped appearing on the show. However, her absence was not the result of any fallout with Kapil. In an exclusive conversation, Upasana addressed the questions surrounding her return and revealed that she gradually felt her role no longer had the same substance or scope for performance. She also shared whether she would consider returning to the show as Bua.
Upasana Singh on not returning to Kapil Sharma show
Upasana Singh, who became a fan favourite as Bua on Comedy Nights with Kapil (2013–2016), addressed questions about her absence from the comedy series. She firmly denied rumours of a fallout with Kapil Sharma and said their bond remains as strong as ever.
Speaking exclusively to Telly Talk India, Upasana said, “There is no such thing as me not wanting to come. I still have a very good relationship with Kapil. I worked with him for two-and-a-half years. He is like my younger brother. I don’t know why people, especially people like you from the media [laugh], spread this thing that we have had a fallout. There is no fallout between us.”
Upasana explained that the real reason was her growing dissatisfaction with the way her character was being written. She said, “Actually, what happened was that after some time, I started feeling that there wasn’t the same thing in my role as there was when I started. I worked there for two-and-a-half years, people really appreciated it, and there was a chance to perform in that role.”
She added that as Kapil began receiving more lead roles, his involvement in the show’s writing changed. “Later, because Kapil started getting offers for hero roles, he didn’t have as much involvement in the writing. I even told Kapil, ‘Kapil, I’m not getting that satisfaction anymore. There isn’t much substance left in my role. I myself don’t feel that I can make people laugh anymore, so how will people laugh?’”
Upasana Singh on possibilities of returning as Bua
While moved on to producing her own films, she revealed that she would still consider returning to the show if she was offered a role with the same impact as Bua.
Upasana Singh said she would be happy to return to The Kapil Sharma Show if Kapil offered her a role similar to the one she played earlier. She also clarified that they continue to share a warm relationship and there is no issue between them. Addressing fans hoping to see Bua again, she jokingly maintained that she would always remain 22, regardless of how many years pass.
