A fresh controversy has erupted around the Telugu film Irumudi, starring Ravi Teja, with the Andhra Pradesh Teachers Federation (APTF) strongly objecting to scenes it says demean government school teachers and misrepresent the education system.
The federation has alleged that certain sequences present the teaching profession in a derogatory manner, creating an unrealistic and damaging image of government schools and their staff. It says such portrayals could negatively affect the dignity and social standing of teachers.
Particular concern has been raised over the depiction of a female teacher portrayed by actress Swasika in what the federation describes as an objectionable and cruel manner.
APTF has also objected to a sequence involving Class 10 girl students, calling the portrayal inappropriate.
The federation has further questioned the student uniforms shown in the film.
According to APTF, the uniforms are inappropriate and resemble those worn by students at a government school in the Seeleru area, where portions of the film were reportedly shot.
APTF president Manjula has demanded immediate action from the filmmakers, insisting that the disputed scenes be removed without delay.
The federation says the issue cannot be dismissed as creative expression because it directly concerns the reputation of teachers and government schools.
The federation has also called for a formal apology from the director to teachers across Andhra Pradesh.
Irumudi is running with houseful collections in many centers and we need to see if makers can even respond to this demand of teachers.
