Shanthnu Mourns Father Bhagyaraj On First Birthday Without Him: I Wish I Could…

Grief over the passing of veteran Tamil filmmaker and actor K. Bhagyaraj continues to be felt across the film industry and among his loved ones. Shanthnu Bhagyaraj, who recently marked his first birthday without his father, has now shared an emotional tribute on social media. Remembering the special bond they shared, the actor mentioned in a note on how he misses hearing his father’s voice and seeing his smile. Shanthnu also mentioned an earlier moment when he had wished he could give 10 years of his own life to his father.

Shanthnu Bhagyaraj marked his first birthday without his father with an emotional note on social media. Remembering  , the actor spoke about how different the occasion felt without the veteran filmmaker by his side.

 wrote, “A birthday without my dad feels different. I wish I could hear his voice, see his smile… call me Singa… one more time… Some birthdays are not about growing older, but about missing the ones who made you who you are today, who built you, who blessed you, who made every birthday special. Miss you daddy – Singa.”

The actor had previously shared another emotional tribute on X following his father’s death. Posting a video from an earlier speech, Shanthnu wrote, “Only if I could (weeping symbol). Appa (dad) (heart broken symbol).” the actor shared pictures with his wife along with a joint note, remembering his late father, the legendary writer, director and actor K. Bhagyaraj.

“This one feels different. Our first anniversary without Appa here to bless us in person — and there’s a quiet ache in that. But I know he’s watching over us, smiling the way he always did,” Shanthnu wrote.

About K Bhagyaraj

K Bhagyaraj passed away in June this year at the age of 73 after suffering a cardiac arrest. A prominent filmmaker, actor and screenwriter, he enjoyed a career spanning several decades and delivered acclaimed films including Suvarilladha Chiththirangal, Oru Kai Osai, Mouna Geethangal, Andha 7 Naatkal, Mundhanai Mudichu, Dhavani Kanavugal, Chinna Veedu, Enga Chinna Rasa and Avasara Police 100. Bhagyaraj is survived by his wife Poornima Bhagyaraj, son Shanthnu Bhagyaraj and daughter  . His death came just 17 days after the passing of his mentor and fellow Tamil cinema veteran K Bharathirajaa.

Bhagyaraj’s eyes were donated following his death, in keeping with a pledge he had made earlier. His funeral was held with full State honours. Shanthnu had earlier appeared as a child artist in his father’s Vettiya Madichu Kattu before making his lead debut with Sakkarakatti. He also acted in Bhagyaraj’s Siddhu +2.
