Filmmaker Karan Johar once shared an amusing story about how his friendship with actress Kajol began, revealing that she had a major crush on Bollywood star Akshay Kumar when they first became friends.
An old video of Kajol and Karan Johar from The Kapil Sharma Show has resurfaced online, offering a glimpse into their early friendship.
During the conversation, host Kapil Sharma asked Kajol whether she liked Karan when they first met. Both Kajol and Karan immediately responded with a loud “No”.
Kajol recalled meeting Karan at a film party held at a discotheque. She said she burst out laughing when she saw him wearing a three-piece suit and tie at the venue.
Karan, however, corrected her recollection, saying she had laughed at him continuously after her mother introduced them. He recalled joining her and her friends on the dance floor before eventually leaving the party because he felt humiliated.
“I never felt more insulted in my life,” Karan said while recalling the incident.
He then revealed that the two eventually met again at the premiere of the film Hainaa, where Kajol was looking for Akshay Kumar.
“At that time, Kajol had a big crush on Akshay Kumar. I remember. We can talk about it now,” Karan said.
According to Karan, Kajol searched the entire premiere venue for Akshay, while he secretly joined her in looking for the actor. Although they did not find Akshay, Karan said the experience brought the two closer.
“So that’s how our friendship started,” he recalled.
Kajol and Karan Johar went on to become close friends and frequent collaborators, with their association spanning several decades and multiple successful films.
