Actor Divyenndu is set to reprise his popular character Munna Bhaiya in ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’, the big-screen adaptation of the hit series, and says he is “equally excited” to see the character make the transition from OTT to theatres.
Reflecting on his return, Divyenndu said the film represents a significant moment as a series that was part of the OTT revolution is now making its way to the big screen.
“It’s already an iconic moment in itself that an OTT series is becoming a big feature film, transitioning from our TV screens and mobile screens to the big screen,” he said.
He recalled the significance of the original series in the growth of OTT entertainment and said the team was now eagerly awaiting the audience response to its theatrical transition.
“The first time around too, we were really lucky to witness this revolution, the whole OTT revolution, and now we’re waiting with bated breath to see how audiences will react to this kind of transition,” he added.
For Divyenndu, returning as Munna Bhaiya adds another special dimension to the project. “Coming back with Munna is like the cherry on top. I’m equally excited to see Munna on screen,” he said.
‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ is scheduled to release in theatres on September 4. Directed by Gurmeet Singh, the film is jointly produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the banner of Excel Entertainment.
The film will feature members of the original cast, including Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Divyendu Sharma, Abhishek Banerjee, Shweta Tripathi and Shriya Pilgaonkar. Sonal Chouhan, Jitendra Kumar and Ravi Kishan are among the new faces joining the crime drama.
The team wrapped up filming in February. Shweta Tripathi, who plays Golu in the series, marked the occasion by sharing a photograph of the film’s clapperboard with the message, “Mirzapur The Film Wrapped.” She also posted a group photograph of the cast and crew and wrote, “It’s a wrap Mirzapur The Movie.”
