Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone will not be part of the upcoming fantasy action-adventure film ‘Brahmastra 2’, her spokesperson said on Monday, putting an end to recent speculation about her reported casting in the sequel.
“All recent reports of Deepika Padukone being a part of ‘Brahmastra 2’ or associated with the project in any capacity are untrue,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
Rumours surrounding Deepika’s alleged involvement had intensified after reports suggested that she was being considered to reprise her character Amrita, Shiva’s mother, who was introduced in the first instalment. Some reports had claimed that her casting was effectively finalised, while others maintained that no official confirmation had been made. Reports had also suggested that production on the sequel could begin in April 2027.
Deepika had a brief but significant appearance as Amrita in the first film. Her character is associated with the Jal Astra, or water weapon, and plays an important role in Shiva’s origins and destiny.
The clarification comes amid renewed discussion around Deepika’s exit from the Prabhas-starrer ‘Spirit’. Deepika was initially attached to the project but exited in 2025 following reports of differences over remuneration, working hours and other professional conditions.
The controversy resurfaced after director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s brother Pranay Reddy Vanga alleged that Deepika had sought 10 per cent of the film’s profits in addition to remuneration and specific working-hour terms. Sandeep had earlier criticised what he described as Deepika’s “PR games” and alleged that details of the script had been leaked.
Deepika, who was last seen in ‘Singham Again’, will next appear in Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘King’, which is scheduled for release in December this year.
