Renault appears to be working on a facelift for the internal-combustion version of the Kwid, with an updated model recently spotted without camouflage in Brazil. The hatchback receives several styling and technology changes, while its core mechanical package is expected to remain largely unchanged.
Since the Kwid is sold in India as well, the Brazilian-market update could eventually be adapted for the Indian market. Renault, however, has not announced an India launch or confirmed whether the same specifications will be offered here.
Design Changes Inspired By Kwid E-Tech
The most significant exterior revisions are concentrated at the front. The facelifted Kwid gets a redesigned grille with a rectangular, enclosed appearance that takes inspiration from the electric Kwid E-Tech. The bumper has also been revised, incorporating a larger black section and a lower element with silver detailing.
The split-headlamp layout continues, with the upper lighting elements positioned around the grille and the main headlamps housed lower down in recessed sections of the bumper. This gives the hatchback a closer visual connection with Renault’s newer design language.
There are fewer changes along the sides. The familiar black body cladding and conventional flap-type door handles remain, while redesigned wheels provide one of the more visible updates. At the rear, the tail lamps now appear to feature clear lenses, although the tailgate and bumper retain their existing overall design.
Updated Cabin And Digital Instrumentation
The interior is expected to receive a more substantial technology upgrade. The conventional digital instrument display has reportedly made way for a TFT-based unit, with separate indicators for fuel level and engine temperature.
The infotainment screen has also been redesigned and is positioned in a free-standing-style housing integrated with the instrument binnacle. The layout appears somewhat different from the arrangement seen in the electric Kwid E-Tech.
Other cabin elements continue with a familiar design. The air-conditioning vents have been redesigned with a Y-shaped pattern, while rotary controls and physical buttons are retained for the climate-control system. The centrally mounted power-window switches also continue.
These changes should give the Kwid a more modern cabin without significantly altering its basic dashboard architecture.
Existing Petrol Engine Expected To Continue
The facelift is not expected to bring major mechanical revisions. International-market versions are likely to continue with the naturally aspirated 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, developing approximately 70 BHP.
Renault has not disclosed the final specifications of the updated model. Therefore, changes to power output, transmission options or other mechanical components cannot be ruled out before the production version is officially revealed.
The focus of this update appears to be on styling, equipment and cabin technology rather than improving outright performance.
Could The Updated Kwid Come To India?
The Kwid continues to serve as Renault India’s entry-level offering, with the current model priced at roughly Rs. 4.5 lakh-5.6 lakhs, ex-showroom. However, sales have remained modest, with just 516 units reportedly sold in the previous month.
An exterior refresh and more contemporary interior could help Renault make the Kwid more competitive in the entry-level hatchback segment. At the same time, the company is currently concentrating heavily on expanding its SUV portfolio in India.
The new-generation Duster has already entered the market, while a hybrid version is expected around Diwali 2026. Renault is also preparing a three-row SUV for 2027, followed by a sub-four-metre SUV positioned below the Duster.
Given these priorities, the Kwid facelift may not be among Renault India’s immediate launches. If the Brazilian-specification model enters production and proves suitable for the Indian market, an India introduction could follow at a later stage. Renault is yet to confirm such plans.
