If your weekend watchlist is looking a little empty, OTT platforms have plenty lined up. From crime thrillers and family dramas to Hollywood mysteries and a much-awaited Michael Jackson biopic, the week of August 24 to August 30 brings a mix of new films and returning shows.
Here are the releases worth adding to your watchlist.
1. Bandar: ZEE5 | August 28
Anurag Kashyap’s Bandar puts Bobby Deol in a challenging role as Samar Mehra, a fading television star whose life collapses after his former girlfriend accuses him of rape. The film explores the fallout of an allegation, media scrutiny and public judgment before the legal process reaches its conclusion. It also stars Sanya Malhotra and Saba Azad.
2. Babita Singh Reporting: Prime Video | August 28
Nimisha Sajayan leads this investigative drama as Babita “Baby” Singh, a suspended police officer who returns home and is confronted with the murder of a childhood friend. Her unofficial investigation takes her into buried family secrets and forces her to reassess her own life. Barun Sobti and Anshumaan Pushkar also feature in the film.
3. Chumbak: Netflix | August 28
Looking for something lighter? Chumbak revolves around five families living in the same Mumbai neighbourhood. As they deal with marriage, parenting, ageing and everyday chaos, their neighbours gradually become something closer to an extended family. The series stars Neena Gupta, Sumeet Vyas, Deven Bhojani and Amyra Dastur.
4. Michael: JioHotstar | August 29
One of the week’s biggest international releases, Michael stars Jaafar Jackson as his uncle, Michael Jackson. The biopic traces the singer’s journey from his early years with the Jackson 5 to his emergence as a global solo superstar.
5. The Whisper Man: Netflix | August 28
Adam Scott and Robert De Niro headline this crime thriller about a father whose eight-year-old son is abducted. His search leads him to his estranged father and an old case involving a notorious serial killer.
6. Dark Matter Season 2: Apple TV+ | August 28
The sci-fi thriller returns with Joel Edgerton’s Jason Dessen continuing his journey across alternate realities. The second season picks up the consequences of the choices that shaped his attempt to return to his original life.
7. Tyler Perry’s Beauty In Black Season 3: Netflix | August 27
Kimmie steps into a powerful new position within the Bellarie beauty empire, but an FBI raid threatens to shake the family’s already fragile alliances.
8. All The Truth In My Lies: Netflix | August 28
A bachelorette road trip turns uncomfortable when six friends are forced to confront secrets and feelings they have kept hidden for years.
9. Graveyard Season 3: Netflix | August 28
The Turkish crime drama returns as Inspector Önem Özülkü and her team reunite to investigate a disturbing new case.
10. The Last Sunrise: Prime Video | August 26
This romantic drama follows a young woman living with a chronic illness who falls for a man during a summer trip to Mallorca, just as family tensions threaten their relationship.
