Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has surpassed skipper Shubman Gill to become the country’s leading run-scorer in ICC World Test Championship history.
He achieved the feat during the second Test match against Sri Lanka in Colombo, where he scored 63 runs before getting dismissed by Keshara Nuwantha on the first ball of the second Session.
This latest milestone for Pant comes after breaking an incredible record earlier in the innings when he surpassed legend MS Dhoni to become India’s highest run-scorer as a wicketkeeper-batter in away or neutral venues.
He breached the 2,500-run mark to surpass Dhoni’s tally of 2,496 runs, reaching the feat at an impressive average of 42, which is better than Dhoni’s 32.84.

Shubman Gill won the Toss and elected to bat first against the home side. Batting first, India’s score reads 475/8 before rain forced an early close to the second session on Day 2, courtesy of Devdutt Padikkal’s brilliant 117 off 193 balls.
