Heavy rain lashed Delhi-NCR, including Gurugram, on Monday, triggering severe waterlogging, widespread traffic congestion and disruption across several key roads.
The downpour brought traffic on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway and other major stretches to a crawl, with several vehicles getting stranded in flooded areas.
In view of the weather conditions, the Gurugram administration has advised corporate offices, government and private institutions, and schools to adopt work-from-home and online classes on August 25.
In a post on X, DC Gurguram wrote, “Work From Home on 25 August 2026. In view of the heavy rainfall in Gurugram on 24 August 2026, there is a possibility of waterlogging and traffic congestion at various locations across the district.
All corporate offices, government and private schools/institutions are advised to guide their employees/staff to work from home on 25 August 2026. “
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert for Delhi-NCR, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds.

Heavy Waterlogging Across Gurugram
The downpour caused waterlogging in Narsinghpur, Hero Honda Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, IFFCO Chowk and several parts of old Gurugram. Vehicles were stranded in water around Rajiv Chowk, while school buses and ambulances were also caught in waterlogged stretches of Sohna Road.
According to the district administration, Gurugram received 70 mm of rainfall by 1:30 pm. Key areas, including Rajiv Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, Railway Road, Sector 5, Old Delhi Road, Mehrauli Road and Basai Road, were heavily affected. The Naharpur underpass was also waterlogged.
Waterlogging in Sadar Bazar, Gurdwara Road and Old Delhi Road led to prolonged traffic jams, with commuters seen wading through flooded streets.
Vehicular movement was also severely affected near the Sirhaul border, Rajiv Chowk and Narsinghpur. Traffic police personnel were deployed at several locations to manage the situation.

Delhi-Gurugram Expressway Hit
A large section of the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway near Cyber Hub, opposite Gateway Tower Metro station, was submerged, disrupting traffic on the major thoroughfare.
Sheetla Mata Road, which has emerged as one of Gurugram’s flood-prone locations this monsoon, was among the worst-affected stretches.
The rain also slowed traffic on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway, forcing thousands of vehicles to crawl despite the highway having enough width to accommodate a large volume of traffic.
The stretch from Signature Tower to Hero Honda Chowk, which normally takes around 15 minutes to cover, took at least 50 minutes on Monday, commuters said.
School Students Stranded For Hours
School buses in Gurugram were reportedly sent out earlier than usual on Monday in an attempt to avoid worsening waterlogging. However, several buses were still caught in traffic and flooded stretches for hours.
Some students were reportedly stranded on the roads for close to three hours as buses struggled to move through waterlogged areas and heavy traffic.
