FSSAI Cracks Down On Misleading Food Ads, Over 150 Notices Issued To Major Brands

New Delhi: has stepped up action against misleading advertisements and labelling violations, issuing more than 150 notices to food companies in recent months, including several major domestic and global brands.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) said the notices were issued over misleading advertisements, false claims and failure to comply with labelling rules.

Major brands face regulatory action

named several companies against which action has been taken. These include Nestle India, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola India, Abbott India, Red Bull India, Danone India and Monster Energy India.

The list also includes Hell Energy, Mondelez India, Diageo, Pernod Ricard, Ferrero India and Kenvue.

According to the regulator, action has been taken against various food business operators for serious violations of food safety laws and regulations.

FSSAI has also intensified scrutiny of energy drink and alcoholic beverage companies. Products belonging to several companies have been seized following violations, the regulator said.

E-commerce companies also get notices

The crackdown has extended to online marketplaces. FSSAI said 12 notices have been issued to e-commerce companies Amazon and Flipkart.

The regulator has also cancelled the licence of one Amazon warehouse as part of its enforcement measures.

Food service establishments have also faced regulatory action. More than 30 notices have been issued to outlets and chains including KFC, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, Domino’s and Costa Coffee.

FSSAI said five licences linked to Domino’s have been suspended. The regulator had also issued notices to several five-star hotels last year.

The latest action highlights increased scrutiny of food companies, restaurants and online platforms over claims made to consumers and compliance with safety and labelling requirements.

Earlier this week, FSSAI said several companies had started taking corrective measures after receiving notices from the regulator.
