Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Red-Ball Test Begins With Jolt As Teen Falls For 8, Coach Sees ‘Good Things In Failure’

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had a poor outing for East Zone in his Duleep Trophy debut against North East Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Vaibhav didn’t take time to cut loose and scored a couple of boundaries before eventually being dismissed for eight in six balls.

has been the talk of the town after his magnificent showings in white-ball cricket; however, he is still untested against the red cherry. He played eight first-class matches for Bihar, but an average of a mere 17 didn’t justify his talent.

But a few failures here and there, especially in the longer format, shouldn’t be a concern as he’s most likely to learn more from them at his age. Long format cricket demands a stronger temperament, and the more Sooryavanshi encounters such situations, the better he can understand when to curb his attacking instincts and when to take the game on. At just 15, he has ample time to develop that balance.

‘There Are Good Things In Failures’

His coach, Manish Ojha, also believes that success and failure are equally important in a young cricketer’s development, and that Sooryavanshi should not be judged too harshly on the basis of one innings.

“There are some mistakes in success, and there are some good things in failure. Both are two sides of the same coin. You cannot neglect either of them,” Manish Ojha told Sports Now.

The youngster has already shown remarkable consistency in T20 cricket; however, first-class cricket presents a completely different challenge, where the ability to bat for long periods and build an innings is just as important as the ability to score quickly.

For Sooryavanshi, every innings will thus be an opportunity to learn. His coach believes that at his age, every ball, every match and every setback will add to his development.

“Every success, every failure, every innings, every ball, every match is a learning process. And he is learning,” he said
