Veteran actress and Cine and TV Artistes Association (CINTAA) president Poonam Dhillon has been hospitalised at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital after being diagnosed with dengue. According to a health update shared by journalist Vickey Lalwani, Dhillon has been admitted for several days and is currently recovering.
Poonam Dhillon Recovering
The actress reportedly confirmed that she was recovering when Lalwani contacted her on the morning of August 22. No further details about her medical condition or the duration of her treatment have been officially disclosed. Dhillon, 64, remains under treatment at Lilavati Hospital as she recovers from dengue. Reports have not indicated any serious complication related to the illness .
Hospitalisation Comes Amid CINTAA Dispute
Dhillon’s hospitalisation comes at a time when CINTAA is facing an internal dispute over its functioning and leadership. Earlier this month, eight elected members of the association’s Executive Committee resigned, citing a loss of confidence in the organisation’s functioning and calling for fresh elections. CINTAA General Secretary Upasana Singh also raised allegations of a lack of transparency and unilateral decision-making.
The dispute subsequently escalated, with Singh and former treasurer Deepak Parashar making further allegations against Dhillon and senior vice-president Padmini Kolhapure. Dhillon has rejected the accusations, describing some of the claims as offensive.
CINTAA Leadership Dispute
The disagreement has also involved questions over the status of the association’s Executive Committee and demands for fresh elections. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has announced September 12 as the date for fresh CINTAA elections, while CINTAA has disputed aspects of the developments surrounding its internal administration.
Poonam Dhillon and Padmini Kolhapure have maintained that they have been working in the interests of CINTAA and its members. Kolhapure has also rejected the allegations and attributed the dispute to misunderstandings within the organisation.
