Rajkumar Santoshi-directed film Batwara 1947 witnessed a major slowdown at the box office, entering its second week. The Sunny Deol starrer film saw a substantial 44.4 percent dip in collections on Day 8 (Second Friday), suggesting poor theatrical momentum.
According to the Sacnilk data, on Day 8 (Second Friday), the film, also starring Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Abhimanyu Singh, Kanikka Kapur and Ali Fazal, earned just 75 lakhs across 3211 shows with 9 percent occupancy. Meanwhile, the overseas markets were consistent, earning 50 lakhs again on day 8.
Despite the patriotic undertones, stellar star cast, and emotionally deeply touching narrative, the film is struggling to make a place in the audience’s hearts, resulting in underwhelming earnings, with net collection still failing to reach the 35 crore net benchmark.
The tumbling competition from the 2007 cult classic sequel Awarapan 2 is weighing on the film, and the sharp drop indicates that sustaining audience traction could prove increasingly challenging in the crucial days ahead.
