New Delhi, August 22: The Indian men’s hockey team is set to face the host nation, the Netherlands, in a crucial match at the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup on Saturday.

The game will  at 7:30 PM at the Wagner Hockey Stadium. The Netherlands is the current Olympic champion, making this match vital for India’s hopes of reaching the semifinals.

In the second round, India is placed in Pool ‘E’ alongside England, the Netherlands, and Argentina. Since India has already faced England in the first round, they will not play against them again in this round. The results from the previous match will carry over. Currently, India stands third in Pool ‘E’ with one loss. To secure a spot in the semifinals, India must win both matches against the Netherlands and Argentina.

On Saturday, the Indian team will aim for victory against the Netherlands to get closer to the semifinals.

Confidence is high for the Indian team ahead of the match against the Netherlands, thanks to their recent victory over the Dutch side. In June, during the final match of the Hockey Pro League, India defeated the Netherlands 3-2. Jugraj Singh, Abhishek, and Rajinder Singh scored in that match, and all three players are part of the World Cup squad.

The Indian team will strive to replicate that performance and defeat the Netherlands once again. All eyes will be on captain Harmanpreet Singh, who is the top scorer for India in this World Cup, having netted five goals in three matches.
