Mustafa Zahid and Evolving Legacy of ‘Awarapan’
Zahid’s musical career gained widespread recognition in 2007 through the original Awarapan soundtrack, which featured his iconic tracks “To Phir Aao” and “Tera Mera Rishta”. The songs became major hit tracks across South Asia and laid the groundwork for his subsequent career in Bollywood playback singing.
While the new sequel features updated versions of the original tracks performed by fresh vocalists, producers opted to honour the franchise’s heritage by launching the film with Zahid’s vocal track. Prior to the release, Zahid had mentioned during a concert that while cross-border political dynamics prevented him from recording fresh material for the new album, he held no animosity toward new artists taking over the legacy and only desired appropriate credit for his original contributions.
