The actress revealed that a few Instagram users used a derogatory term for her. She wondered how any man from any backrgound can come online and call a woman ‘r****’. Shweta Tiwari Opens Up Getting Online Abuse
Taking to her Instagram stories, shared screenshots of male Instagram users who abused her online. She further wondered how one goes to their family after speaking to another woman in a derogatory manner. She also alleged that a man was apparently a supporter of politician Raj Thackeray and his party.
“And that brings me to something very personal. I have lived in Maharashtra all my life. My father was brought up in Mumbai. All my life I have grown up seeing the pride and dignity attached to being a Marathi maanus… I grew up believing that Marathi culture respected women, their strength and their dignity,” she penned.
The actress went on to share what feels when people who proudly identify as ‘Marathi maanus’ slide into women’s DMs and use an explicit word for them. “I genuinely have to ask: Is this what being a Marathi maanus has come to mean? Raj Thackeray, if people like this are your supporters, then I would genuinely like to know, do you believe this is acceptable behaviour?,” she added.
According to Shweta, speaking Marathi or calling oneself Marathi maanus or claiming to love Maharashtra is not enough. The actress stated that a woman doesn’t lose her dignity if someone doesn’t know her. That said, she feels a woman doesn’t deserve to be called ‘r****” only because a person disagrees with her, dislikes her or feels entitled about her.
