A girl’s first menstruation celebration has gone viral online, winning hearts for the way her family turned a usually hushed-up subject into a moment of pride and respect.
The video, posted on Instagram by a user named Aayusha, has crossed 17 million views. In the clip, she stands at the entrance of her home as her family marks her first period with a ritual. Overwhelmed by the gesture, she breaks down in tears while her loved ones cheer and show their support.
The most striking part of the video is when all the male members of her family, from the eldest to the youngest, step forward to place money at her feet and bow down. The video left viewers emotional, especially because it challenged the stigma and shame often attached to menstruation.

I didn’t understand why. I asked my mom WHY? She didn’t have an answer. My dad wasn’t home. He came later in the evening asked mom where I was. She told her. He came to my room. I was embarrassed because it was sth new for me so I didn’t open the door. But he insisted. I opened the door sat me down and hugged and kissed me and told my mom the door will not be locked and I could do whatever I wanted.” Someone shared, “Meri mummy ne bola tha kisi ko mat batana.”
A user shared a Marathi tradition called oti bharne, where new clothes, sweets and gifts are given during a girl’s first period. Another expressed, “Ye kisi dusre gole ki family h kya?🥺 I mean Why not me?”
