China’s has been eying the Indian market for some time now and the company has collaborated with JSW Motors, an upcoming carmaker in India. Both companies are exploring badge engineering operations on fully imported models and even CKD kits and local assembly route with JSW’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility as well.
In that regard, Chery has been patenting quite a lot of its vehicles in India. If we list all of them, they’ll probably take two paragraphs. The latest additions to this river of patents are Exeed ET8 and Omoda O4. These patents suggest either launch probability with JSW badge or just IP protection exercise.
Chery Exeed ET8
Starting with the larger and more premium Chery Exeed ET8, it is a full-size flagship luxury SUV which measures 5,205 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, 1,800 mm in height and has a 3,120 mm long wheelbase. It has to be noted that Chery Exeed ET8 does not fall under the Exlantix umbrella and is different from the Exeed Exlantix ET8.
In terms of design, Exeed ET8 seems to be eying for Range Rover (full size) aesthetics, but is more exuberant with outlandish lighting. We can see a connected LED signature at the front and an Spide-like LED tail light signature which we have seen with other Exeed vehicles. Headlights are vertically arranged and there is an interesting pattern going on in the fascia.
At the sides, we can see suicide door configuration like in a Rolls Royce and then vertical fender adornments like in a Range Rover. Wheels are 21-inches and they look proper on this vehicle. Interiors are not revealed, but a 2+2+2 seating, 4D massaging 2nd row seats and 31-speaker Boya audio system are announced. Exeed ET8 is a range-extended EV with around 1,400 km of combined range.
Chery Omoda O4
The other Chery SUV which was just patented in India, is Omoda O4. It just debuted and is not yet listed on the company’s website too. It is a C segment SUV which features Chery’s ‘Cyber Mecha’ design language. Sharp angular lines, zig-zag LED signature at the front and rear along with the kink in the window line and flared angular wheel arches grab attention.
It measures 4,420 mm in length, 1,870 mm in width and 1,570 mm in height, featuring a 2,700 mm long wheelbase. Ground clearance is 190 mm, wheels go up to 19-inches and boot space is 402L. Chery Omoda O4 features a portrait-style infotainment screen, three-spoke steering wheel and other attributes.
Omoda O4’s multi-energy platform supports ICE, Hybrid and BEV setups. In ICE version, there is a 1.6L Turbo Petrol engine with 150 PS and Hybrid gets a 1.5L Turbo Petrol with two electric motors with 226 PS combined output and then there is a pure EV version with 218 PS FWD motor drawing juice from a 66.05 kWh battery.
